For hardwired motors in an existing home, we assess wire routing before committing — most mid-century and modern homes have attic or ceiling access that makes this feasible without major disruption.
How long do Lutron Sivoia motors and batteries last?
Lutron Sivoia motors are rated for over 50,000 cycles — at 10 open/close cycles per day, that's over 13 years of daily operation. Wire-free battery modules last 3–5 years depending on use frequency and are recharged with a standard USB-C cable without removing the shade. Hardwired motors have no consumable components beyond the motor itself, which Lutron warrants for 5 years.
Can I still manually adjust the shades if the automation system is offline?
Yes. Lutron shades can always be operated from local Pico remotes — small battery-powered buttons that communicate directly with the shade motor without requiring a network or hub. If Control4 is offline or the main processor reboots, your Pico remotes still work. You can also use the Lutron app for local network control, or the physical button on the motor as a last resort.
How many fabric and opacity options are available?
Lutron offers hundreds of fabric options across roller shades, wood blinds, woven wood, and drapery. Opacity options range from 1% (nearly transparent) to room-darkening to true blackout — we specify blackout for theater rooms and primary suite bedrooms where light elimination is critical.
